The start to the La Liga season has been seriously weird but surely things will start returning to normal, whatever that is these days…
The round kicks off with Eibar hosting Cadiz. Eibar had a shocker start to the season, losing 3 of their first 4 games but have picked up 7 points in their last 3, including an impressive 1-0 win at Sevilla last week. Cadiz are the talk of the town – they have approached promotion with no fear and have beaten both Athletic Bilbao and Real Madrid. They surely won’t last in their lofty position of 6th but they will be fun to watch! These teams are difficult to separate and I will go with Both Teams to Score here.
Real Madrid have been stumbling along in the Champions League so they will welcome a return to league action. They host Huesca, who are in 18th and haven’t won a match yet this season, although they do have 5 points from 5 draws in 7 matches so they won’t make it easy. Madrid to win with a -1 handicap here.
Sevilla have been the opposite of Real Madrid: they are going great guns in the Champions League with a draw against Chelsea and a win against Rennes but in the league they have been inconsistent thus far with 2 wins, a draw and 2 losses. I’m going to back them to get going by beating Bilbao, who have scored just 4 goals in 6 games.
Osasuna has made a good start with 3 wins, a draw and 2 defeats to sit in 7th currently. This means that there should be reasonable odds for their visitors Atletico. Simeone’s clan is getting its’ act together and are playing for their 3rdsuccessive win in the league. They beat Osasuna 5-0 in the corresponding fixture late last season and have won 8 of the last 9 league meetings between the sides and they should improve on that run here.
Deportivo Alaves versus Barcelona is actually 15th vs 12th! The resignation of Barca President Josep Bartomeu this week should mean sunnier times ahead for the Catalans. They trashed Ferencvaros of Hungary 5-0 in the Champions League this week and they won corresponding version of this fixture 5-0 last season, to make it 7 wins in a row against Alaves. They should also improve on that run after this game.
