Bundesliga: Matchweek 26

We are back! Yes, yes we know you missed us as much as we missed you but finally top-tier football returns and with it EggHeads. We are buzzing to announce that we will now offer you tips and predictions to get you through that Bundesliga betting slip courtesy of our new writer; Franz Eggenbauer!

Borussia Dortmund vs Schalke

What a way to start with the great Revierderby between 2nd placed Dortmund and 6th placed Schalke. No fans will be in the stadium but there will be some great players in there and it may come down to who can come out of this season break and score first. Advantage goes to the Black and Yellow with Jaden Sancho wanted all over by Europe’s top teams and the way Eric Haaland was lighting it up before the break.

Prediction: 2 – 1

Fortuna Dusseldorf vs SC Paderborn

Bottom of the table clash. Both teams have been struggling this season but the break could have been what both teams need to turn their season around. Or maybe they actually would prefer not to be playing, such has been their respective seasons!  I don’t see a big scoring game here and I’d take a tip on a high number of cards to be handed out: Gjasula (Paderborn, 12) and Ayhan (Dusseldorf, 9) lead the league for yellow cards.

Prediction: 0 – 0

Red Bull Leipzig vs SC Freiburg

Leipzig are the nouveau riche of the Bundesliga (or whatever that is in German) and for that reason are held in disdain by the other clubs. Their style of play on the other hand, has gained many admirers and in December they were top of the log and thrashing Tottenham in the Champions League. Expect them to use those wings as this restart takes off.

Prediction:  3-1

Hoffenheim vs Hertha Berlin

Battle for the middle ground in this encounter. With no recent form to go on, difficult to decide which team will take the initiative and apply the pressure first. Hertha’s defence has been about as compact as the Berlin wall these days, so hopefully they’ve been working on that. A late goal for Hertha to win it and break into the top half of the table.

Prediction: 0 – 1

FC Augsburg vs Wolfsburg VfL

The Wolves will come down and show Augsburg why they are the predators of the Bundesliga. They don’t strike fear into the hearts of defenders and don’t give commentators the same ammunition as the days of old when they were coached by Wolfgang Wolf (true story) but they are an underrated outfit – Augsburg’s manager was so scared he broke quarantine and is suspended for this one!

Prediction 0 – 3

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Borussia Monchengladbach

The unpronounceable name of Monchengladbach will twist your tongue but dazzle you with their football. They have taken the Bundesliga by storm and are currently only 6 points off Bayern so this is the perfect time to close the gap and make the final weeks really interesting.

Prediction: 0 – 1

FC Koln vs FSV Mainz

Games with no fans involving a match between the middle of the table vs the bottom of the table team could become a reason to sleep in. Both teams do need the points to though, to move up toward the top half of the league and for Mainz, to move away from the relegation zone. Give me an early goal for the visitors here and a late comeback by Koln to tie it up.

Prediction: 1 – 1

 Union Berlin vs Bayern Munich

Aah, the Uber Sunday primetime slot. By now you should be well into your bratwurst, with some apfelstrudel and a bier to follow. Just kidding, who has beer? I hope Bayern Munich will put on a show that leads world football back to where it used to be and shows us what we’ve been missing. Expect them to come out and send a message to their league rivals that the title is out of their reaches. A couple of goals for Robert Lewandowski in this one.

Prediction: 1 – 4

 Werder Bremen vs Bayer Leverkusen

The first round of back to football fixtures ends with relegation-haunted Bremen hosting 5th placed Leverkusen. The Bundesliga is known for producing exciting players and they are making their way to the EPL, such as Kevin De Bruyne and Leroy Sane recently. Take a look at Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby because there’s sure to be some scouts streaming this match to do just that and possibly recommending to your EPL club.

Prediction: 0 – 2
