The ‘Left Winger’ returns with another instalment of PSL action! Read on to find out how we see the weekend unfolding!
Stellenbosch v SuperSport United
SuperSport are sitting pretty in 4th place on the ABSA Premiership table but can they do it on a windy Friday night in Cape Town? Stellies have been on a good run lately with 3 wins, a draw and a loss in their last five. In SuperSport’s last 8 away games, fewer than 3 goals have been scored so there’s a nice over/under goals tip.
Prediction: 1-1
Baroka v Bidvest Wits
At a single glance, one would pump for Wits in this fixture but bear in mind that this will be Wits’ 3rd game in 6 days, including a morale-boosting but energy-sapping penalty shootout cup win over Pirates. The Students weren’t striking (!) on Wednesday night, losing 0-1 to Maritzburg Utd and will have to get up for this trip.
Prediction: 1-1
Highlands Park vs Bloemfontein Celtic
Tipping Highlands last round to end their bad run was a great tip. I’m gonna go for them again here. It’s 8th vs 9th and separated by 1 point so it’s a tough game to call. There will be goals in this one.
Prediction: 2-1
Sundowns v Chippa United
Chippa have just one win in their last 5 league games and are going in the wrong direction. Make no mistake, Sundowns are highly motivated to reel Chiefs in at the top of the table and this is a perfect opportunity to start doing that. Sundowns have scored before half time in their last 4 outings, so there’s an over/under first half goals tip.
Prediction: 3-0
Kaizer Chiefs v Maritzburg United
No-one is prepared to hail the Amakhosi as champions-elect just yet, given that their form has been patchy of late, scoring just 3 goals in their last 3 games. For Maritzburg to be 6th is massive credit to them and they’re coming off a good win at Wits in midweek. Coach Tinkler will need to tinker with his line-up for this one and a second game on the Highveld might take it out of them. Go for Chiefs to lay down a marker here.
Prediction: 2-0
AmaZulu v Golden Arrows
AmaZulu are in disarray, with stories of behind-the-scenes ructions undoubtedly affecting the focus of the team which is at a critical stage. Another relegation from the PSL for this club would be a tragedy and they’re going to battle until the end of the season it seems. A Durban derby can throw up surprises but AmaZulu have won just once in their last 5 league games.
Prediction: 0-2
Black Leopards v Orlando Pirates
Pirates are in good form and have a dominant record over Leopards, with 4 wins and a draw over the last 5 encounters. Back the Bucs here.
Prediction: 0-2
Polokwane City v Cape Town City
Polokwane have slumped to rock bottom of the log and are without a win in 5 matches so there’s not much positive to see there. Cape Town City however, are also without a win in 5 away matches and will have to find a solution after losing Kermit Erasmus to injury. My tip would be to stay away from tipping this one!
Prediction: 0-0
