Happy New Year to all of you! Wishing you everything of the best in 2019. This festive time of year is made even more exciting by the jam-packed football calendar and adding a couple coins into the coffers to kick-off 2019 never hurt anyone. Read on to find who EPL EGGHEADS is backing this week!
Everton v Leicester
I have no idea what will happen in this game; Leicester looked to have turned a corner and then get beat by Cardiff, Everton put up a stellar performance at Anfield and then got battered.
It feels like a must win for Marco Silva, he seems to be under a bit of pressure and will want to get a home win on New Years day.
Nevertheless, I cannot separate them so I’ll go for the draw @ 15/20.
Arsenal v Fulham
Happy to have called the Brighton result the other day – but in honesty its typical Arsenal. I’ll back them to win here though, they have quality and although they were embarrassed by Liverpool they should have too much going forward for Fulham.
Fulham will attempt to pack in and make life tough for the Gunners; Aleksander Mitrovic got an important goal at Huddersfield so he’ll be playing with confidence.
Arsenal and both teams to score @ 14/10 is the tip.
Cardiff v Spurs
Crazy to think that if Spurs got a win against Wolves the other day they could have been three points behind Liverpool if the Reds are beaten at the Etihad! Spurs rinsed Everton and Bournemouth and looked to be flying – then they got beaten at home by Wolves. Disappointing.
I really enjoy Neil Warnock. He is one of the most underrated managers in England. After getting smashed by United, Cardiff are out of the bottom three and have picked up two (clean sheet wins) on the bounce, however, I cannot see past a Spurs win here.
Back the Coys with a (-1) handicap @ 21/20.
Huddersfield v Burnley
Must-win game for Huddersfield. Simple as that. If they lose they are eight points from safety and I think they’ll be relegated. Take away Burnley’s last performance, they haven’t been brilliant so I’ll go for the home win @ 23/20.I just think the Terriers will want this more.
West Ham v Brighton
How annoying it must be for a West Ham supporter right now. They were absolutely flying, then were beaten by Watford and then responded with an exhilarating finish to the game at Southampton. You have to say the greatest asset in the League is consistency.
Brighton aren’t the same team on the road they are at home so I’ll back West Ham @ 9/10.
Bournemouth v Watford
This is another game that could be absolutely anything. Bournemouth have struggled recently and now with some important players injured I’m not confident in the Cherries.
Watford can be anything on their day themselves so I’ll back the draw @ 49/20. It would be great to see these sides have a go in the FA Cup – they aren’t going to challenge for top places in the League and they aren’t going to get relegated so why not?
Wolves v C Palace
This could be a really exciting game, both sides have the pace and ability upfront to hurt the other so expect goals galore. Wolves had a brilliant result the other day at Spurs; it goes to show that when a team stick to their guns and play their game they can beat anyone. Wolves only know attacking football and we all give them stick for it but they are starting to be known as the ‘top 6 slayers’.
I’ll back an open game and go over 2.5 goals @ 5/4.
Chelsea v Southampton
Easy Chelsea win here. Southampton enjoyed the honeymoon period with their new manager but it’s been much of the same since the win against Arsenal and Huddersfield.
Chelsea were impressive against Palace – calm and measured at a football ground that isn’t easy to visit.
For some extra value back Chelsea on the half-time/full time double @ 7/10.
Newcastle v Man United
Is it too early to say United are back? I mean we are watching United play again. They are making runs, they turn defence into attack with pace and ease, Paul Pogba is scoring from the six-yard box and there is a real feel-good factor at Old Trafford.
Newcastle will put 20 men behind the ball if they could and play for the 0-0. I still back United to rip the apart. Cardiff sat back against United and were torn apart by their pace…I dread what the score will be at St. James’.
Back United to score in both halves @ 13/10 – great value there.
Man City v Liverpool
This is a massive game in the context of the Premier League. If City lose this Liverpool are in as best a position as they could be to go on and win the League for the first time in the better part of 20 years.
If Liverpool lose this, it is definitely game on! They wouldn’t be invincible anymore and their reaction to the loss could define their season – inclusive of all competition.
City look to be all over the place at the back right now and I don’t think they will be able to deal with the pace Liverpool have upfront. You get the feeling the more the game goes on the more the game will become end-to-end and that only suits Liverpool.
As silly as this sounds, I think City will try and keep the game compact and steal the game by the odd goal – Pep Guardiola will know his side can’t stand up to Liverpool right now which might explain his visible irritation during press interviews…
I’m not going to lie I would love to see a City win here (only because it would make the title race incredibly exciting)
Nonetheless, back Liverpool to win/draw + both teams to score @ 31/20.
