EPL EGGHEADS returns with our Boxing Day Premier League predictions! This should be another enticing round of action as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer takes charge of his first home game as United caretaker manager, Liverpool look to consolidate top spot before Chelsea face an interesting visit to Vicarage Road.
I must apologise for our technical issues that resulted in no article for Gameweek 18.
Fulham v Wolves
Upset on the cards here. Fulham showed signs of some defensive prowess this past Saturday, in my opinion that was always going to be Claudio Ranieri’s toughest task coming in at Craven Cottage and it’s clear the Italian has been hard at work.
Fulham have to win this game, so they will definitely be up for it. Wolves offered nothing against Liverpool and so I wouldn’t be surprised to see Fulham come away with all three points here.
Get on Fulham @ 21/10.
C Palace v Cardiff
What a result for Palace at the Etihad! Andros Townsend has scored the goal of the millennia by the way and his team have got themselves what could be a season-defining win.
Cardiff was on the receiving end of a 5-1 hammering by United so I cannot see past a relatively easy home win. Back the Eagles @ 13/20.
Manchester United v Huddersfield
I find myself caught in two minds when thinking about United at the moment. You watch that game against Cardiff and you think ‘what a difference, where has this team been?’
José Mourinho is one of the game’s most accomplished managers; Solskaer (with all due respect) isn’t even in the same universe as José. Is it really Solskaer who has come in caused this? Or is this yet another example of player-power in modern football?
Nevertheless the football is once again exciting and the players all seem up for it. There was never any doubt about their talent so I’m going to go for United to win by three goals or more @ 16/10.
Leicester v Manchester City
This is a massive game for City – no two ways about it. They are four points behind Liverpool who look fantastic at the moment. The reality of the situation is if City can’t beat Liverpool at home in a week the title race may be well and truly over.
Leicester can cause problems on their day and so this most definitely will not be a walk in the park. Incredible how things in the League can change, a couple weeks ago it didn’t seem like City would lose a Premier League game for a couple years, fast forward to now and they have lost two of their last three.
Both teams to score is easy to punt @ 9/10. Get on!
Burnley v Everton
This is a tough game to call. Burnley make it tough for teams to break them down, yes they have been getting beat but they are a difficult team to play against – especially when they are on song.
I think this will be tough for Everton at Turf Moor, it’s a tough ground to play at and if I’m honest I don’t back Everton to come out and blow the Clarets away.
Back a draw @ 24/10.
Liverpool v Newcastle
Newcastle couldn’t score against the worst defence in the League on Sunday. How will they score against the best?
If Liverpool get beat here – I’ll post a video adorned in Scouser attire bellowing you’ll never walk alone (as a United supporter)! It will just never going to happen.
For some value back Liverpool to score in both halves @ 6/10.
Spurs v Bournemouth
Spurs should win this and I think they will. I saw an article the other day asking whether or not Spurs are still title challengers…I think they are – in my opinion.
Bournemouth are a strange side, if they get a win they can go on a run of a couple games but if they aren’t playing with that confidence they are easily beaten.
Straightforward Spurs win – for extra value – back them on the (-1) handicap @ 17/20.
Brighton v Arsenal
I’m looking forward to this game, Brighton are a different animal at home than when they play away. Arsenal will be confident, after Chelsea lost to Leicester, that top 4 is now all of a sudden very realistic.
The only problem is I don’t think Arsenal win this game. I’m going to for the upset + draw on Wednesday evening. Brighton to win/draw + both teams to score @ 21/10 is the tip!
Watford v Chelsea
Yet another example of how the League is always changing. Chelsea’s draw to Everton and loss to Leicester have relegated them from the ‘title’ conversation to the ‘fighting for top 4’ argument.
Watford will be a really tough game, especially in their back yard. They are a physical side that on their day they can beat anyone. Yes, they have been inconsistent but their victory against West Ham was massive and will do wonders for their confidence.
Back the draw @ 28/10.
Southampton v West Ham
This game should be an absolute cracker! West Ham seemed to be flying before the Watford game while the Saints are showing what getting stuck in can get you.
Southampton look really good but I think West Ham will provide a stern test for them. Back the draw @ 49/20.
