EPL EGGHEADS returns with another weekly Premier League preview, there are some huge fixtures on offer this weekend and some good opportunities to make some money. Want to find out who I’ve backed in the huge Liverpool-Manchester United clash on Super Sunday? Read on and don’t forget to let me know what you think!
Manchester City V Everton
I was one of the voices saying Everton had improved in recent weeks, but when you look at their results it seems to paint a different picture. I thought they were outstanding against Liverpool, and possibly unlucky not to have gone ahead. Then you look at their games against Newcastle and Watford and it’s almost like a completely different Everton team – failing to win either game.
I have no doubt Everton will make it hard for City but at the Etihad it’s hard to go against the home side.
For some extra value, look at going for City to be winning come half-time as well as full time @ 6/10.
Wolves v Bournemouth
This should be an entertaining game. Wolves seem to have a head of steam and we all know how Bournemouth will approach the game. Wolves seem to have turned a corner and are playing brilliant football once more, its amazing what a victory here and there can do for confidence!
I know Bournemouth was rinsed against Liverpool but I think a response will be issued at the Molineux.
For me both teams to score @ 15/20 is a solid bet.
Huddersfield v Newcastle
This will be a massive game for both of these sides. Neither can afford to lose so I expect it to be a little nervy on Saturday afternoon. I felt for Newcastle a little bit, I thought they were in the game against Wolves only to lose from the last kick of the ball.
Its tight at the bottom of the pile, neither can afford to drop points and so ill be surprised if this wasn’t a cagey affair. I’m going to back the draw @ 2/1.
Tottenham v Burnley
Burnley seems to have found their identity again, sit back and make it difficult for teams to break them down. That’s the Burnley responsible for their achievements last season.
Spurs had a brilliant result at Barcelona in the week, a result that would have done wonders for their confidence and team morale after their disappointing north London defeat.
I can’t see past a Spurs win here, they should just have too much quality.Back Spurs with a (-1) handicap @ 5/10.
C Palace v Leicester
Palace need to win this. You hear people always say “they won’t go down they have too much quality”, in this league (given the competitive nature) that is a dangerous assumption to make.
The irritating factor, which applies to both of these sides, is that without Zaha and Vardy neither really fire.
For my money I’ll go for Leicester on the win/draw double chance + both teams to score @ 17/10.
Watford v Cardiff
Which Watford team shows up on Saturday? That’s the thing with Watford though you never know what you’re going to get.
Cardiff have done well recently and look a tough team to beat at home, that’s important for them because you don’t expect them to get many points on the road.
I’m going to side with Watford to edge yet another enthralling game. Get on @ 13/20.
Fulham v West Ham
I’ve given up on Fulham this season. They just concede far too many goals and if I’m honest I’ll be shocked to see them stay up. West Ham has turned a corner though, we all judged them a little bit early on but they have truly bounced back.
I can’t see past an away win here, so back the Hammers @ 14/10.
Southampton v Arsenal
I’ll be very interested to see how Southampton set up on Sunday. With a new manager in at the club and his first game at home he won’t want to sit in and get too many behind the ball – if they did it would almost certainly play into Arsenal’s hands.
Arsenal are a team that can play and hurt you from all over the pitch, I can’t see them not getting a positive result in this one. Back the Gunners @ 19/20.
Brighton v Chelsea
I know that I’ve previously said I like Brighton at home, they can be tough to beat and have an incredible support, but I think Chelsea have too much quality.
I think the reality is if Chelsea can’t win here then you look at the City game and think it’s a complete waste of time – some may even think to themselves why beat City and allow Liverpool to go top…
This will be a tough game, no question, but I’ll back Chelsea to claim all three @ 9/20.
Liverpool v Manchester United
Would you be shocked if Liverpool didn’t get a result here? I watched the United game on Wednesday evening, based on that performance I’d back Sunderland to beat them on Sunday.
You look at that Valencia game and think, United had nothing to lose, Valencia are not one of the best teams in Spain, its an opportunity to go and build up some confidence ahead of the massive game on Sunday, a chance to ease some of the media pressure on their style and approach to games.
That performance on Wednesday was atrocious, absolutely and utterly atrocious. I wish I could have said something different in this article but I cannot see how United win this game of football.
That isn’t to say there isn’t huge pressure on Liverpool though, they will want to ensure they stay on top of the pile and will be well aware that if there is any manager who enjoys spoiling a party its Jose Mourinho. And at the end of the day it’s a historical derby and with the adrenaline of the day anything can happen.
For odds @ 11/10 I’ll back under 2.5 goals as I feel the odds for straight wins are a little inappropriate.
