UEFA: Champions League (Matchday 6)

It’s the final round of the Champions League group games and there are still questions in need of answering. Will Spurs and Liverpool make it through to the next phase of the competition? United’s chances of securing top spot alongside a presumed response from City? Read on and see what EPL EGGHEADS is predicting!

Barcelona v Tottenham

Although Barcelona have secured top spot in their group I doubt they will lay off the intensity come Tuesday evening. The Catalans are on a run of 4 games unbeaten, something they will not want to lose in a clash with Spurs. For Spurs however, the job is a relatively straightforward one – at least in the academic sense. All they need to do is win, simple as that.

This is a tough game to call though because I feel Spurs will want it more, but Barcelona definitely have more quality. I expect an open game and goals galore, and for that reason I’ll go for either a Barcelona or Spurs win (double chance) + over 3.5 goals @ 33/20.

Liverpool v Napoli

Anfield is one of the top European venues in world football, and you can expect those fans to be pumped for this one. If Liverpool go on to win this it’ll be massive for their season, if they don’t it’ll be interesting to see how that impacts their momentum going forward this season.

Napoli are a fantastic side, they are playing brilliant football and will be no push over here. They’ve already beaten Liverpool so I find it a little interesting when Jurgen Klopp comes out and says he doesn’t mind if they score first.

For my money I’ll go for Napoli on the win/draw double chance + both teams to score @ 2/1.

Valencia v Manchester United

There’s been a lot of talk suggesting Jose Mourinho, and indeed Manchester United, will be thinking about Sunday’s trip to Liverpool and I cannot disagree. United haven’t exactly blown anyone away but they have done the work required and have secured qualification to the next round. If they get beat here I’m not sure they’ll be too concerned.

Jose will probably give players who haven’t enjoyed much game time – que Paul Pogba – a run out here, but you’ve got to agree Sunday is their big one.

I’m going to back Valencia @ 29/20.

Manchester City v Hoffenheim

City will definitely want to respond after their defeat at Stamford Bridge. I expect Pep Guardiola to make a couple wholesale changes but they have so much depth in their squad its incredible.

Nothing much to say here, City wins a comfortable game. For some extra value back City to score 3+ goals @ 6/10.
